Filips Smits

Filips Smits is a Latvian-American photographer. In his early twenties, he moved to London where he graduated from the University of the Arts London as a photographer. Now based in Riga, he’s capturing and researching his contemporaries and reflecting on their coming of age. In 2020 he received FK Prize by Foto Kvartāls magazine as the ''Best Young Latvian Photographer'' and his work from the winning series shot on film, has been featured in an international group show ''Despair'' by Riga Photomonth 2020. His latest work, a dialogue between the urban terrains of New York and Riga, was presented as a part of the official program of Riga Photomonth 2021 in a solo exhibition ''Post No Bills''. On the side of his personal projects, he’s working on commissions by brands and institutions like TBWA, Nike, St Luke's London, Rossana Orlandi Milan, Sony Music Finland, Tom Adam, Latvian National Museum of Art, etc.
