Katrina Neiburga

Katrīna Neiburga is a visual artist, who’s art is subject to a desire for emotion, authenticity, and memory preservation. Neiburga’s deeply personal iconography shines through in her video installations, performances and in her scenography. She is interested in sociology and anthropological studies, exploring the evolution of the human behavior and the nature of things. Since 2000 she has participated in multiple exhibitions all over the world including 15th Sydney Biennial, 2nd Moscow Bienniale, 56th Venice Biennale, Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2016, First International Riga Biennial of Contemporary Art and Manifesta 13. In 2008 she was one of the finalists for the prestigious Finnish Ars Fennica award, and received the first Purvītis Prize in 2009. Her feature film Garages was nominated for the best debut in the Lielais Kristaps National Film Award 2017. Neiburga has created the scenography for productions at the Latvian National Opera, at the Stanislavsky Theatre, the Perm Opera, the Bastille Opera House, the Mariinsky Theatre, and the Teater Grob in Copenhagen, amongst others.
